About The Artist

As a child in my hometown of Spokane , Washington , I always knew what I wanted to be when I grew up.  I wanted to be an artist, not a fireman or a cowboy, but an artist.

My favorite medium in those days was wax crayon on freshly painted living room walls.  This proved to be a temporary but powerful artistic statement that always evoked an emotional response from my mother and father.  In later years, my parents were more supportive of my career goals.

I graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus , Ohio , and began my career as a graphic designer with an industrial design firm.  A few years later, I joined an architectural and urban- planning firm as a visual communications manager.  Eventually, a client made me an offer I couldn't refuse, and I spent the next 20 years as a marketing executive with CompuServe, a computer services firm. At CompuServe, I was responsible for marketing communications, design and publishing, among many other things.

I launched J.E.M. Productions in 1999 to pursue several of my interests, including strategic marketing and communications consulting.  I also returned to my roots in the visual arts and began producing the work you see on this site.

My philosophy as an artist is fairly simple and straight forward:

I produce pieces that are visually interesting and easy to live with. I don't feel compelled to produce controversial social or political statements and I don't consider myself to be a tortured soul or a tragic figure.  I'm just a person who takes pleasure in making art for other people to enjoy.

Most of my work involves mixed media because of the versatility and challenge that it provides.
